Around Truro

Beach, Beach, Beach!

The Truro Hostel is located only a two minute, barefoot walk away......in fact, you can see the beach from some of the bedrooms at the Hostel! Ballston beach is part of the National Seashore, and one of the most beautiful beaches on Cape Cod. Miles and miles of wonderful soft sand, a small crowd (nobody, if you walk down the beach a bit!), clear blue water with some waves. Boogie Boards are available at the hostel free of charge, just bring them back! If you are an early riser you'll be rewarded by beautiful sunrises over the Atlantic Ocean, and pancakes waiting to be made back at the Hostel!

Bonfires on the Beach are the trademark activity at the Truro Hostel...shouldn't be missed. Bring a picnic, marshmallows, a guitar or harmonica, and a beach towel or blanket.

Cape Cod National Seashore:
Ranger led activities, too numerous to list. Visit their website.

Self guided hikes:
The National Seashore has many beautiful self-guided trails throughout, like this trail at Pilgrim Springs, named after the spot where the Pilgrims found fresh water. The trail goes along a blueberry farm, around dunes with views of the Atlantic Ocean.

Bearberry Hill Trail:
Across the road from the Truro hostel is the trail entrance to the Bearberry Hill Overlook. This 1/2 mile round-trip provides a great view of the Pamet River, the dunes and ocean, the hills to the north and south, and the pond and former cranberry bog below. The bogs were abandoned in the early 1960s. Longer trails extend from the Bearberry Hill Overlook over some of the most isolated and beautiful moors on the Cape.
